Student Clubs

Student artists will come together to grow and enhance their skill through the lens of Visual Arts.  These members will explore various art techniques in a smaller group setting.  Maximum number of students is 24.  Art Club will meet once a week on Tuesday afternoons from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. September through April.  Club fee is $40 to cover club supplies, club T-shirt, and sponsorship.

Students who like to challenge their brains with fun games and logic problems will meet the first Tuesday of each month from 3:20-4:45 (beginning in October).  Club members will learn thinking skills through games like:  Sudoku, Logic Problems, Magic Squares, and  board games! Maximum club size is 24.  Club fee is $30 to cover club shirt and snacks.

All 4th and 5th grade students are welcome, even if you do not know how to play chess.  This club will meet Monday mornings 7:30 - 8:20. There will be two separate clubs, one for the fall and one for the spring. Maximum club size is 16 students at a time.  Club fee is $10 and will cover club materials.

WGES Chorus is composed of fourth and fifth grade students who love to sing, dance, and act.  We will perform a short holiday concert in December, and one in the spring.  Our spring concert will include singing, dancing, costumes, and character parts.  We also plan to sing at the Collins Hill Cluster Fine Arts celebration in the spring.  Rehearsals are on Tuesdays from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m.  Club fee is $40.  The club fee covers,a T shirt, field trip costs, music, and sponsorship.

Students will go on interactive movement adventures with Cosmic Kids Yoga which builds strength, balance, and confidence.  Cosmic Movement club will be full of energetic poses to get your body moving in a fun way. Cosmic Movement Yoga will meet at 7:45 the first and third Thursday each month.  Maximum number of students is 20.   Club fee is $20 that will cover club materials.

Students will engage in a variety of hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) activities that will foster their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.  This club will meet once a month on Thursday mornings 7:50 – 8:15 a.m. starting in January.  Club fee is $10 to cover club materials.

What’s a curator?  A curator is someone who acquires, cares for, and develops a collection.  What are we curating? Curator Club members will help make the media center a great place for students.  The Curator Club is for you if you like to create fun displays in the media center, help choose new books, read books, and do fun activities like baking, making videos, arts/crafts, gardening, and more.  The club is limited to 10. Club fee is $80. (includes: snack & cooking ingredients and materials).

Running Sport Club will meet after school on Thursdays until 4:30 p.m.  Students will work on building stamina and endurance by running the track, learn healthy eating habits, run for a cause by participating in two 5Ks to build community awareness, learn sportsmanship, and learn skills in specific sports in the gym area.  Club fee is $30, which includes a club shirt.

The Coder School is proud to join the roster of After-School partners with Walnut Grove Elementary this semester!  The kids join us after school each week as we teach them to code awesome games and apps in Scratch for kids in 2nd-5th grade!  We also have a Dash Robotics program for kids in Kindergarten & 1st grade!

We’re also offering a special perk for the kids who attend our After-School program.  Each weekend we’ll host a Roblox gaming event online for the kids to join and have fun with their classmates, the Roblox Game Night is included in the price too!

The girls will come together one Thursday a month after school (3:30-4:45) for fun, growth in confidence and leadership skills, and to make a positive impact for our school. The club will meet from September-April. Club fee is $30 and will include club supplies and t-shirt.

In FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Discover, students are introduced to the fundamentals of STEM while working together to solve fun challenges and building models and robots using LEGO STEAM Park.  FLL Discover is limited to 10 students.  A selection committee will review applications to determine the club members.  This club will begin in January 2024 and run through the end of March 2025.  FLL Discover will meet once a week after school from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.  Day still to be determined.  The club fee is $40 that includes a club shirt and materials.

In FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Explore, second, third, and fourth grade students will apply science, engineering, and math concepts, plus a big dose of imagination to develop solutions to real-world challenges using LEGO SPIKE Essentials.  They will design, build, and program SPIKE Prime Essential LEGO based robots to perform missions.  FLL Explore is limited to 6 students per team.  A selection committee will review the applications to determine the club members.  This club will begin in November 2024 and run through March 2025.  The club fee is $40 that includes a club shirt and materials.

In FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Challenge, the fourth and fifth grade students will apply the Engineering and Design Process to solve a real-world problem using LEGO Bricks, powered by LEGO SPIKE Prime.  There are three main parts of the club:  Innovation Project, Core Values, and Programming.  The innovation project involves the team identifying and researching a problem connected to the current season’s theme.  The team must also design, share and refine a solution to the problem they identify.  The core values (discovery, innovation, impact, inclusion, teamwork, and fun) guide the team through preparation and competition.  The third part is programming the SPIKE Prime robot to accomplish different missions on the mission board.  The club meets August to January.  FLL Challenge will meet on Wednesday afternoons from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m.  Ten students will be selected based upon their application and tryout results.  The club fee is $40 that includes a club shirt and materials.
